The cornerstone to our school is our strong academic program. We have taken a typical Middle School curriculum and transformed it to meet the needs of our student population. Our goal is to give our students the skills to graduate from Bridges Middle School with the academic foundation, social skills and confidence needed to successfully transition into, and graduate from, traditional high school settings or other specialized academic endeavors.
Bridges Middle School does several unique things when it comes to enrichment and elective course work. We offer many of the same “non-core” elective courses that other schools offer such as art, keyboarding, fitness, and health. Courses such as art and fitness take on a very supportive and inclusive feel with our 9-1 student teacher ratio. Some of these classes are more loosely structured in public school settings and have led to difficult experiences for our students. Bridges adaptive fitness programs helps students gain a sense of safety that might be missing in other settings.
Bridges Middle School’s Art Therapy Program integrates social and emotional counseling techniques, combined with the creative process, to improve the mental health and well-being of our students. Utilizing art we are able to help our students communicate, build frustration tolerance, overcome stress and explore different aspects of their own personality.
Outside of these classes we have the opportunity to offer a variety of unique educational experiences to our students. By teaching to students’ interests and teacher strengths we have the flexibility to create programs and curriculum that fit our students individual learning styles. All of our courses are very hands on and experiential. Some of the non-core classes we offer include simple machines, American Sign Language, team building, and mythology.
