Bridges Middle School and Executive Director Beven Byrnes were recently featured on FM News 101 KXL as part of the station’s Women History Month coverage.
In the segment, Beven spoke about how Bridges meets Oregon Department of Education standards while redefining how those standards are delivered to students:
“We do teach to the standards of the Oregon Department of Education, but we do it in a completely different way. We don’t keep kids in grade tracks. We keep kids in ability-based tracks.”
KXL anchor Tim Lantz shared that Beven sees this approach as reshaping what education can look like nationally — and expanding what’s possible for the next generation.
At Bridges, students learn in ability-based groups with individualized support designed specifically for neurodivergent learners.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to spotlight the power of inclusive education and the transformative work happening every day at our school.
